Great local spot. Quirky, but wholesome. Ordered chips and salsa, chorizo and asparagus plate and one grilled veggie tamale. The asparagus was charred perfectly, the chorizo was crisp, homemade tortillas were warm, salsa was hot and chips were fresh. Plus margaritas were strong. Highly recommend!

Charlie is a gruff adorable owner who will make your mouth happy w/ tamales of every kind. Be patient, find a seat and he will be w/you asap. There is a yellow menu for take out(frozen tamales) or a hot meal on the two regular menus. Frozen tamales come in 4 packs and are individually large. And the margaritas come w/ chili salt on the rim. Great atmosphere and fun to watch Charlie interact w/other customers. Love this place, will return soon!

I was suspicious after reading the reviews, but I love tamales and was picking up on a strong vibe from this place so wanted to give it a try. My partner and popped in on NYE and got seated right away. The owner was super friendly and we tried several different tamales and the taco combo. It was a lot of fun and refreshing compared to dining in Portland proper. I especially loved the sweet tamales, which I’ll be dreaming about for the rest of my days. Highly recommend the PBJ and lemon coconut. Excited to go back to make my way thru the menu.

We stopped by on a chance from all of the commercials. It was NOT a Disappointment. The owner and his partner were there. Besides wonderful tamales spiced just right and Margaritas which you can actually taste the Tequila. Atmosphere, small maybe 4 tables. But the fun and the owner more than made up for it! The owner (that you saw on TV) is really a kick, world traveled and so very friendly. Although the prices are not cheap, the quality and taste are well worth our trip with another couple. All in all, we had a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend as an adventure for 2 - 4 people. We will be returning. It was a truly great experience. 4* dining at a regular establishment. And by the way ask for a tour of the next door where the owner has wonderful collection of real antiques and very unique items which he has accumulated via his travels and connections to the community.. We eat out often and I am a gourmet cook for over 40 years. My reviews are my honest and true beliefs. (Not an employee, family or friend, or PAID) Happy New Year to all of our foodies....

This hidden treasure is a place you don’t need to go to if you’re in a hurry, or want your traditional sit down restaurant. - AMAZING TAMALES - AMAZING LIMEADE, and their Horchata is out of this world with flavor that will take you to a tropical paradise. - Asparagus that’s greener than any you’ve seen before with a slight crunch when you bite down that’s full of flavor. - Their salsa is flavorful, fresh, and homemade. - Rice & Beans are exquisite The food was above average, it was authentic, very delicious. Don’t let their prices differ you, as when you get your plate get ready for your taste buds to be opened up and take you for a wild ride. I have read the negative reviews, and came to the conclusion that everyone is entitled to they’re own opinion. However, don’t let those scare you away as most thing of a restaurant as a Olive Garden and not a traditional family owned establishment that’s satisfied with their own ways.
